In the Gradeathon of November 2019 a group of friends attempted an ambitious cover of one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded – Holes, by Mercury Rev. Of the 10 performers only three had played their instruments for longer than a year. The others played the song with instruments they had only recently picked up. No video evidence exists of the resulting performance, which overall raised around £10,000 for the hospice.
During the lockdown of 2020, the group decided to record the song, and this is the result. Each performer recorded their parts themselves, and then I put them together into the track.
Performers:
- Kayte Cable – Clarinet
- Denise Cassar – Trumpet
- Chris Edmonds – Bass
- Jane Lovatt – Alto Sax
- Andy Nuttall – Vocals, Saw, other instruments
- Sarah Nuttall – Piano, Ukulele
- Martin Robson – Violin, Cello, Tenor Sax
- Clare Sergeant – Flute
- Steve Smith – Guitars
