This was my most ambitious music production to date. Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday has always been my favourite Christmas song, and a great track to showcase the band’s talent. It was so much fun to receive the videos that each performer had put together in their lockdown houses, and the humour comes across brilliantly – I’m so proud of them all.
All I had to do was to mix them together and add a few more instruments… more than 40 audio tracks in total. It was like a Phil Spector Wall of Sound! Absolutely loved it though, I had a whale of a time locked away in the studio and tinkering. Martin contributed massively to the mix too, as to be honest as the hours ticked by I really needed another set of ears to rely on, and he has such excellent ears!
I must have recorded the vocals about 20 times to try to get them how I wanted them, and I never really did – but ran out of time. One day I’ll go back and re-record them with techniques (both vocal and production) that I’ve picked up since.
But the track still brings a massive grin to my face. It rounded off our year as a band, and it shows off the good nature and close-knit family of the band.
